Welcome!

We are the FRIENDS OF MIAANI, a small group of people from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii who have established a special relationship with the villagers of Miaani, Kenya.  They live in extreme poverty without clean water and electricity.  There is frequently a shortage of food and clothing. We saw this first-hand when we visited these gracious and loving people in 2005. We took medical supplies and gifts for the many orphans whose parents had died from AIDS. We have established and maintain a medical clinic there, donate money for orphans’ uniforms (a requirement to attend school), and provide secondary school scholarships (room and board) to girls who would otherwise be unable to receive an education.

What we need to do

We want to bring clean, potable water to the 3,000 villagers in Miaani and transport the water to the medical clinic.  Attempts to dig a shallow well have been unsuccessful; consequently a deep well is required.  The cost is considerable and the $20,000 we have raised is not enough.  The cost of a deep well and the equipment required to bring the water to the surface and transport it to the clinic is $45,000.
